Love is in the Air

Finished a beautiful Wedding Invitation for a local Miami News Reporter. I painted this piece on a 11x14 canvas. My client wants to have it on display for her guests on the day of the wedding.  It is a whimsical approach to a winter wedding invitation that will be on New Years Eve.

Carnaval on the Mile

It was an amazing experience! I was able to meet wonderful people who love art and really appreciate everything about it. It made me happy seeing the smiles on my clients faces as they walked away with their work of art. :) Here's some pics from the show. Can't wait for the next one!

I've retyped this post several times.. not knowing how to say what I have to say without really saying it... if that makes any sense.

Why I love Advertising, because a good advertisement will have an image that will say it all and more.  I never get tired of "a picture is worth a thousand words", even if it's super cliché.  Today was a great day. Many positive things to be thankful for.. but then there's a comment someone says that manages to inch itself right through your very pores and completely change your mood.  Yes, I do have to grow thicker skin, or maybe I should figure out when to put a helmet before I hit the speed bump.   I suppose with every compliment comes a bad review/critique... but what I would prefer is if people would take a moment before they judge.  Especially, when it is judging someone's work that is outside of their field.  Por eso hicieron differentes colores, para que cada el mundo pinte su mundo.  As a lover of the arts, I have seen some works of art at local art shows or even museums that I may not like or find appealing.  Yet, I have the etiquette to look further into the artist's background or statement to see if they have an underlying message I missed out on.  If that doesn't work, I'll try to do my best to play the "Art Historian" and see what another look may reveal.  People wanting to critique harshly should consider taking an Art History course, possibly reading up on Art Periods or Masters and what they tried to say through their work.  Knowledge = Power.  Sometimes not making a figure appear realistically three dimensional is purposely done to mimic Modernists or Cubists... do some homework, you might be enlightened knowing that perhaps it was just art for art's sake. And that's the way the cookie crumbles....Gn.

New Painting

I DID IT!

Ain't No Casanova! It's officially.. got my name changed.. meet Mrs. De La Cruz!
It was sad to say goodbye to my last name today... Casanova... but my married name does have a nice ring to it. We are a complete Mr. & Mrs. now. Some people make their last name into their middle name, but since I have a middle name (Maria)... and it's my Mom's name, whom I love sooo much, I'm keeping it for her and for me. My younger brother can keep the family name going. Love you too little brother of mine. Another thing checked off my check list done..whoo hoo.. lol.

Busy Busy Busy

So sorry for straying away from my blog. My husband just bought me a new Macbookpro for Valentines Day, (Thank you Babe!)  so now I definitely don't have an excuse not to be a nonstop blogger. :)  Today, in my Seminars class, we had a guest speaker from PapiBlogger. Manny Ruiz, who is the Co-Publisher/Blogger in Chief at Hispanic PR blog was an eye opener! First question he asked our graduating class was if we were Multimedia specialists... as in do we blog, tweet, & FB?... I have all of them, but the wake up call was that I have not taken any of these amazing social networks to the next level. So here I am, making what you could call a "February -New Years Resolution".  I'm promising to step up my A-game, and really make the time to show any fellow followers what I'm up to every day.  As to get everyone up to pace, I'm almost half way through my last semester at FIU, double majoring in Communications Advertising and Art.  You can't really pinpoint me to a location, but you can be sure if I'm not driving on the I-95 from North Campus, I'm in my studio drawing up some artwork to get started on a new project. I hope that will be enticing!
